Horses Helping Humans
The relationship between horses and humans has long been a very special one. They have carried us on their backs for long journeys, pulled our carts, worked on our farms, healed our bodies and hearts, and have been companions in numerous other ways. They have been helping humans accomplish their goals for years.
As prey animals, horses are intimately in tune with their own environment and have a heightened awareness of what is going on around them. This sensitivity provides a helpful mirror for humans when we engage with them naturally; just as they are as horses.
Since horses communicate non-verbally, they respond to our body language, heart rate, breathing patterns and odours. Horses therefore provide a powerful mirror for what we are bringing to our relationship with them. By learning to understand equine communication and bringing awareness to our own body, cognitions, attitudes, feelings and behaviour, we experience growth and learning through the equine-human relationship. We can then transfer this learning and awareness to other relationships such as those with humans and our environment.
